Why do healthy plants need moist soil

All plants need water just like we do. Water helps plants take in nutrients from the soil, make their food, and stay strong. If the soil is too dry, the plants can’t get the water they need and may stop growing. But if the soil has too much water, it can block the air from reaching the roots, and the plants can struggle to breathe. The right balance of water and air in the soil helps plants grow well, making it easier for them to use nutrients and stay healthy.

During the growing season, it’s especially important to keep the soil moist. If the soil dries out, the plants can’t get enough nutrients. This is often a problem with sandy soils, which hold less water and dry out quickly. Clay soil can hold onto water much longer. If your soil is sandy and dries out quickly, you can improve it by adding compost or other organic matter. This makes the soil better at holding water and keeps it moist longer, even in dry weather.

Good soil moisture management helps the plants stay healthy all season long, even if the weather is dry.
